MHappy Month is a celebration of the new ideas, events and paradigms that move us towards a future where wellbeing of both the planet and its citizens are realized. Many campus events tend to focus on problems—the War in Vietnam, global warming, for example. Too much bad news leaves many of us immobilized and unable to act effectively. While we will absolutely fight to overcome the injustices and prejudice in our communities, we also need a vision of the future that sustains us. Sustainable happiness is a subject that allows nearly all disciplines to participate and contribute their knowledge to teach-ins and celebrations.
In addition, April is one of the most stressful times of the year, and students often find themselves in unhealthy habits including little sleep, unhealthy food, lack of exercise, excessive caffeine consumption and so on. One of the goals of MHappy Month is also to remind students to be mindful of their health, and to expand the definition of what happiness is.
