Spring Break week may conjure images of sandy beaches or a quieter Ann Arbor, but for members of The Career Center staff and 60 Michigan students, the mid-winter break means a road trip to the Windy City! The Career Center's Immersion Excursion program regularly brings students to on-site visits with host employers. Students engage in hands-on learning experiences, tour office spaces, meet with staff, and have a chance to explore if the organization or industry is the right fit for them. While many visits take place in and around metro Detroit, a few times a year, The Career Center takes advantage of class breaks for field trips in farther locales like Chicago.
This year over Spring Break, students can select and apply to one of three different Immersions happening simultaneously on Tuesday, March 5 in Chicago. The PR/Advertising Immersion will help students explore the similarities and differences of working in the fields of media, advertising, and public relations. Students will learn about a PR "pitch", what it means to be a media "buyer", and how to design an effective ad campaign while visiting Edelman PR, Starcom, and Ogilvy. Students interested in the culture of a successful start-up company will get to peek behind the scenes at Groupon and Red Frog events. And aspiring market-watchers can dive into the financial industry by visiting organizations like Morningstar.
Immersions are ideal experiences for students looking to clarify their own career interests and connect with other students who share similar passions! Students interested in attending the Immersions over Spring Break, or other upcoming Immersions sponsored by The Career Center, can apply via The Career Center Connector. Immersions are open to students of all academic majors and class levels. Applications for the Chicago event will be accepted through Feb 18.
