Student Life

Students in a discussion

Spectrum Center is piloting a new mentorship program called Mentorship and Professional/Personal Support (MaPPS). This program intentionally connects LGBTQ students to LGBTQ staff/faculty members who may share similar identities and/or goals. In contrast to advising, we would like to see mentors motivate mentees by recognizing their strengths and accomplishments, help them sharpen skills or improve their capability, and guide mentees’ decision-making process. In addition, we encourage each mentor-mentee pair to explore events and programming made for and by the LGBTQ+ community at and near the University of Michigan.

We plan to launch this program during the Spring 2018 semester and require a semester-long commitment. If you will be available during the months of May-June and would like to participate, you can apply at this link - http://bit.ly/MaPPS.

If you would like more information, please see the Mentee Expectations and Program Overview document attached to this email. Please contact spectrumcenter@umich.edu if you have any questions.
