The Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities is a living, community-owned document open for amendments by University of Michigan students, staff, and faculty every three years. You can have a role in making updates to the Statement during the Fall 2015 Semester!
Set the Values
The University outlines eight values that guide its work: Civility, dignity, diversity, education, equality, freedom, honesty, and safety. Is something missing? You can submit a proposal to add (or remove) one of the values to accurately reflect our community.
Set the Rules
The Statement outlines 20 violations of our University values. Do you agree with them? Is there something of concern happening on campus that you don’t see reflected in the violations?
Influence the Format
The Statement is a 16-page document available in paper and online. Is this accessible to our community? If not, what might be a better way to spread the word? What might be a better design?
Improve the Procedures
The Statement outlines different pathways, including appeals, that may be utilized in the event of a violation. Is there something that should be added or clarified which will make our processes more just and transparent?
