In 2011 the Chair of MUBR (Michigan Union Board of Representatives) and the Chair of ACRS(Advisory Committee for Rec Sports) joined together to form a new student advisory group - Building a Better Michigan. Their goal was to mobilize students and to give them a chance to have their voices heard regarding the future development of the University Unions and Recreation Centers.
BBM works hard to advocate for improvements to spaces and buildings that support and define the Michigan experience. Their efforts to “tell the story” of the Unions and Recreational Sports have been energetic, truthful, and inspiring. Since their inception, BBM has spoken multiple times to the Board of Regents, organized bus tours to over 5 other institutions to view facilities, and facilitated focus groups and town halls.
The legacy of student leadership at U-M is almost unmatched anywhere. Students were the reason the Rec and Union programs were developed, students were the advocates for their own needs and now students once again lead the charge to reinvest in that experience.
