Parent Weekend Goodie Bag

While it may be hard to believe, Move-in is just around the corner! Dropping your student off this fall may be hard after this past year but Student Life would like to invite you to two events to help ease the transition this fall; Move-In Parent & Family Receptions and Parents & Family Weekend.

Move-In Parent & Family Receptions

Leave your student to settle in their new space and come enjoy an ice cream treat with Student Life staff! It is our goal to welcome you to campus and answer any questions you may have about your student’s Michigan experience. Staff from a variety of units will be available  to provide guidance and answer questions, while your student has some time to get to know their floormates and settle into their new room on campus. This event will be hosted at three locations on campus, (Central: Regents Plaza, Hill: Couzens Patio, and North: North Campus Recreation Building Patio) on August 26, 27, and 28 2 - 4 p.m. and on August. 29 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Gluten and dairy free treats will be available.

Parents & Family Weekend

Parents & Family Weekend will be held Friday, November 5 - Sunday, November 7, 2021. Student Life is so excited to host you and your family and we believe this will be a memorable weekend with your student!  The following are our top three reasons why you should consider attending the Weekend.

3. Connect with Your Student’s School & College

Parents & Family Weekend is a great opportunity to learn more about your student’s academic program.  Many schools and colleges host receptions or presentations to share  information about the program and opportunities that your student can engage in, such as internships or studying abroad. Others provide tours of their facilities and/or research labs, allowing you a glimpse of your student’s academic life. Many schools & colleges will have faculty and administrators available to connect with and answer questions. Check out the Friday schedule to see if your student’s school or college is hosting an event.

2. Attend a Michigan Athletic Event

Michigan is known to many for our athletic programs. This year families have the opportunity to purchase tickets to attend Michigan Football v. Indiana on Saturday, November 5. Other Athletic events may also be scheduled for that weekend as well. Join your student in this honored tradition of cheering on the Michigan Wolverines.  You can practice the fight song and find your best maize and blue gear to join in the spirit!

Football tickets can be purchased through Parents & Family Weekend registration starting on Tuesday, September 14 at 12 p.m. EST.  There is a non-refundable $50 registration fee for Parents & Family Weekend.  Families can purchase up to four football tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents & Family Weekend was allotted a very limited number of tickets so families may consider purchasing tickets outside of Parents & Family Weekend registration if attending the football game is a priority.

And the #1 Reason to attend Parents & Family Weekend is...

1. Spending Time with Your Student

This is a great weekend to see your student in their element! They have cultivated a life here at Michigan. Ask them to show you around town, to meet their friends, or to see their favorite spaces.  See campus through their eyes. For a wide variety of events for you to attend and explore with your student, check-out the events schedule.

This is also a good opportunity to check-in with your student. How are they doing academically? Socially?  How are they taking care of themselves? Talking with your student throughout the Weekend may allow you to reinforce good habits and/or connect them to campus resources.  Student service units will be hosting information sessions on Friday, including Financial Aid. Bring your student to the session or gather information to pass on.

No matter the reason, consider spending the weekend with us!  We look forward to seeing you!
