When U.S. News & World Report this year again cited the University of Michigan as one of the nation’s best universities, it included two distinctive observations. U-M faculty were noted as having “an unusual commitment to undergraduate teaching.” In my day-to-day experiences with deans and professors and directors of academic programs, it is very evident that we have great teachers here – and consequently, great learners.
The magazine also recognized U-M for a number of programs that lead to student success, including our first-year experience, learning communities, service learning, study abroad and undergraduate research and creative projects. That warmed my heart, because Student Life is engaged in all those programs – and more – precisely because they provide transformative learning experiences for our students! That’s the essence of our mission and core values in Student Life.
There are remarkable people and resources within Student Life ready to support the academic success and personal development of your student. Our work is measured by how we serve the individual student’s needs and interests – health, community, self-esteem, leadership, engagement, social justice, understanding. And still, the collective results are worthy of recognition nationally as making a difference in the quality of higher education.
As ever, we’re here as a resource for you as well as your student. Please feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com or any of our services on our website whenever we can be of help.
