Parents and Families

As spring arrives in Ann Arbor each April, the University of Michigan community readies itself for change. The snow melts and the weather warms up; students take finals, say goodbye to friends and pack their bags for the summer; and graduating seniors enjoy the last few weeks of their college experience before moving on to the next phase of their lives. April is always a time when we look to both the past and the future at the university.

Chances are, you’re experiencing this feeling of change with your own student—whether he or she is preparing to enter a job or graduate school, or simply coming home for the summer. Through Family Matters, the Division of Student Life’ e-newsletter for parents, we work to keep you informed about what’s happening on campus, and in this issue, we will look both back and forward.

Keep reading for practical information about University Housing move-out—including our recycling program for off-campus residents—and Commencement weekend; a university perspective on two timely topics: the job market and health insurance; a preview of our new North Quadrangle residence; and finally, a reflection from a graduating senior on her experiences with community service.

I have enjoyed getting to know many of your students on campus, and invite your questions and comments about student life through this newsletter, by email to assist-me@umich.edu, or by phone to (734) 764-5132.

Kind Regards,
