off-campus neighborhoods

For students moving into off-campus apartments and rental properties, Student Life supports a program that is building a stronger connection between campus and student neighborhoods.

Beyond the Diag was launched by the Dean of Students Office to establish a network of off-campus neighborhoods within Ann Arbor where many U-M students live. The outreach and organized activities in these neighborhoods help foster a greater sense of community and improve communication between neighbors and the University.

The Beyond the Diag website provides a lot of helpful information about fire safety, night transportation, student safety and health services, the monthly newsletter to students, tips for being a good neighbor, campus parking information and city resources and ordinances that off-campus residents should know.

A new website, offcampushousing.umich.edu is in development that will soon offer new features for students, including:

  • Off-campus housing listsings, with interactive mapping feature to indicate property location in proximity to campus and public transportation
  • Ability to search for roommate and subtenants by developing a personal profile on the site
  • Mobile-friendly design to post and search for housing and roommates at any time, on any device – desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet.

Off-campus students are now better connected to campus and with each other, thanks to  information and outreach provided by Beyond the Diag.

To help the Dean of Students Office continue making a difference in students' lives, please consider making a gift.
