Parents and Families

Whether your student is starting at the University of Michigan or returning for senior year, this is an exciting journey for both of you.

We savor this time at U-M because we look forward to having the students fill our campus and our lives with their energy, inquiry, creativity and joy.  Many are familiar friends, others hopeful new acquaintances.  Sometimes they need our assistance in navigating academic, social, or personal experiences on campus – and Student Life is eager to help.

We’re not only here for the students, we’re here for parents, too.  Family Matters is just one part of our commitment to helping you and your student stay informed, keep in touch, and enjoy the university journey together.

We’re looking forward to sharing the coming year with your student, and to being a resource for you as well.  Please encourage your student to look at our website to become familiar with the many programs and services of Student Life.

We also recommend that your student sign you up to receive various newsletters and bulletins from around the university, including Family Matters.  He or she must go to the Student section of the Wolverine Access website, click on Alerts, Bulletins and Newsletters, and enter your e-mail address(es). It will take only a minute to fill out and it takes effect immediately.

Please feel free to contact this office – assist-me@umich.edu, or (734) 764-5132 – or any of my Student Life  colleagues whenever we can be of service to you.

In our next issue of Family Matters, I look forward to sharing information about the new president of our university, Dr. Mark Schlissel. In the short time he has been on campus, it is quite apparent that his experiences in higher education, his wisdom, insights, and poise will provide outstanding leadership.  I am looking forward to working with him to ensure a great education and Michigan experience for your student.
