In the last issue, we asked: How do you help your students to make academic choices like selecting courses, areas of study, or how many credits to take next term? Has it changed for you over their time at Michigan?
Here's one Michigan parent's experience:
Our son is very independent and aggressive in his course selections. He talks to his counselor and makes sure his courses are meeting the requirements of his major. My husband and I remind him that 16-18 credits maybe a tough work load. We give him a reality check and remind him that he needs time to do some basic stuff: groceries, laundry, cooking, errands, etc. He just dropped a course and is sounding less stressed!
