Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services (SAAS) at the University of Michigan include:

 

Services for Students with Disabilities

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) recognizes disability as an integral part of diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable educational environment for disabled students.

Students who have a physical, medical, or mental condition that impacts their experience as a student, and/or are seeking academic accommodations should connect with SSD. Learn more about the process with SSD.

Coordinators work with students to determine reasonable accommodations for barriers encountered due to disability. Once approved, students request their Accommodation Letter for each course using the ACCOMMODATE Semester Request System. 

If you are a prospective or current student with disabilities, SSD is happy to answer your questions about your student experience and help you navigate the transition to college.

 

Academic Support Programming (ASP) 

Academic Coaches and Mentors

  • Coaching helps students better understand their learning processes and works to create plans to help students achieve their academic goals in and outside the classroom.
  • Coaching can be both one on one and in group sessions. 
  • Coaches also facilitate Coaching Corner workshops each month on various academic topics.

PASS Program

  • PASS stands for Peer Assisted Study Sessions and is part of SAAS's Academic Support Programing.
  • This program provides students with weekly study sessions that are facilitated by a PASS partner.

Adaptive Sports & Fitness (ASF)

The Adaptive Sports & Fitness Program increases awareness about, knowledge of, access to, and participation in adaptive sports and fitness among people with and without disabilities at the University of Michigan and in the greater Ann Arbor community. It is open to students, faculty, and staff. Program offerings include Paralympic sports training for athletes and physical and recreational activity that is adaptive and accessible for persons with disabilities. 

 

Testing Accommodation Centers (TAC)

The Testing Accommodation Centers (TAC) are available to proctor exams for students with accommodations approved through Services for Students with Disabilities. Students must communicate in advance with instructors before scheduling to use the TAC. More information for students is available here. Faculty should refer to the Faculty page. The Knox Center is a quiet and accessible site for students who are registered with SSD with Windows and Mac workstations and adaptive furniture, and it offers speech recognition software.
