First Year Experience: A New Way

Starting a new academic year is always an exciting challenge met with some trepidation. The COVID pandemic puts a whole new spin on it. But U-M’s successful First Year Experience (FYE) is making the modifications to continue to provide the best experience for your student.

As your student joins their peers in the new academic year, those same questions arise: Will they fit in? How will they navigate the many "first time" experiences they’re about to have? And how will this fit in during the current pandemic crisis?

The First Year Experience at Michigan is a series of Student Life programs which are designed to help students chart their own unique course. Right away, we’ll help your students to see the many opportunities to get involved, understand their campus, and start making this Michigan experience truly their own.

Tips for learning video
New this year is a” Tips for Learning Space” video. This video will help your student -- who most likely is working to safely social distance, yet be engaged in learning -- create a positive learning space.  Whether your student is attending classes online or just needs a place to read, it's important that they set themselves up for success.

Check out these tips, curated by FYE student facilitators, to help your student set up the perfect learning space.
