Our Time with Your Student

It may be hard to believe that your student is nearly a month into the new school year. Wasn’t it just a few days ago that your student was moving into their new residence hall, house or apartment? With classes now in full swing and student groups holding their first meetings of the year, life for your student is thrilling—and busier than ever.

So it’s perfectly natural that texts, FaceTimes or calls aren’t as frequent as you’d like. But take heart: this can be a positive sign for many students, an indication that they’re growing more independent, immersing themselves in classes, finding their voice, and exploring all that the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor have to offer.

In the meantime, we suggest looking ahead to the upcoming Parents and Family Weekend, taking place November 2 - 4. Unable to make it to campus this November, or missed signing up by September 13? Look into attending a Fall athletic event with your student, and consider spending time together in Ann Arbor or at home during Fall Study Break (October 15 -16).

As your student navigates a journey of lifelong learning, check in with them along the way. Ask them what’s new. In time, they’ll seek out wisdom and guidance from you, their most devoted advisor.

If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to email us at assist-me@umich.edu.
