The cost of tuition can be substantial, and students may need to withdraw from a term due to an injury, illness, or flare-up of a chronic condition. The U-M Tuition Insurance Plan is a voluntary insurance available to students on the Ann Arbor campus that can assist in these circumstances.
The tuition insurance significantly extends the university’s withdrawal policy. Students who need to completely withdraw from a semester due to injury or illness (physical or psychological) will receive a refund up to 75% of tuition, less any refund or credit due from the university. The insurance can help to pay back loans, grants, and scholarships, and can help students continue their education at a later time.
Tuition insurance is available to all Ann Arbor students, including in-state and out-of-state undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The cost for the insurance is less than 1% of a student’s tuition cost. For example, the tuition insurance cost for an in-state (MI resident) undergraduate student is only $122. This amount covers the student for both Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 terms.
The U-M Tuition Insurance is provided by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., a private firm that has been offering tuition insurance for ninety years. For details, cost and enrollment please visit the College Refund website.
The Fall/Winter coverage purchase deadline is Sept. 9, 2022. Additional details are available on the University Health Service website.
