Meal Plans and More for Off-Campus Living

If your student has decided to live off-campus, they may still want to eat in the campus dining halls, regularly or occasionally. Several meal plans are available that provide delicious food and diverse choices. All without your student having to shop, cook and clean up!

Many students take advantage of campus food options, either through a meal plan for the dining halls or through cafés and markets on campus.

Meal plans: Meal plans allow students to eat meals in the dining halls. Students who live off-campus, in Northwood Apartments, or in the Munger Graduate Residences can choose from several different plans. Block plans allow students to eat some meals in dining halls, and Unlimited plans provide an unlimited number of meals in dining halls. For flexibility, all meal plans include Dining Dollars, which supplement meals and can be used just like cash at other campus eateries. And there is no deadline for purchasing a meal plan; you and your student can make the decision to add them at any time.

There's always room at the table: Even without a meal plan, students (and their visiting family members) can still eat in dining halls by paying for their meal. All meal prices are subject to the State of Michigan’s 6% sales tax, although U-M students who present a valid Mcard/campus ID card) are exempt from sales tax. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult or be participating in a program. See Dining Hall Single Meal Prices.

Blue Bucks is an easy means of payment for campus food and more. Blue Bucks is the campus currency at U-M. When purchased, they are instantly credited to students' Mcard. Then students can make purchases at campus cafés, markets, dining halls, and other locations. Blue Bucks are refundable and never expire. Parents can purchase Blue Bucks for their students by going to GET, clicking on the "Add Blue Bucks as a Guest" button and following the prompts.

You can find details about these meal options including how to purchase at the MDining Off-Campus and Apartment Residents webpage
