Tuition Refund Insurance Available for Winter 2022 Term

The cost of tuition can be substantial, and students may need to withdraw from a term due to an injury, illness, or flare-up of a chronic condition. The U-M Tuition Insurance Plan is a voluntary insurance available to students on the Ann Arbor campus that can assist in these circumstances and help protect students against financial loss in case they must withdraw from the university due to a physical or mental health illness or injury.

Tuition Refund Insurance is now available for students on the Ann Arbor campus for the Winter 2022 term. Tuition Refund Insurance significantly extends and enhances U-M’s published withdrawal policy. The insurance is voluntary and inexpensive, costing less than 1% of your student’s Winter 2022 term tuition (ex. $61 for an in-state undergrad student and $172.50 for an out-of-state undergrad student). Insurance costs for graduate and professional students are listed on the Dewar Insurance webpage.

Advantages of this insurance include:

  • Coverage of 75% of the insured term tuition and fees, less any refund or credit due from the university for students who must completely withdraw from an academic term
  • Provides funds that can help to pay back loans, grants, and scholarships
  • Coverage for university housing can also be purchased
  • Offered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., a tuition insurance carrier that has been in business since 1930

The Tuition Insurance open enrollment for Winter 2022 coverage is open now through Monday, Jan. 10 for students on the Ann Arbor campus.
