A COVID Update

The winter term has begun and our students are back, bringing a vibrance and warmth to our snowy Ann Arbor campus. The start of a new term often brings a mixture of emotions for U-M students, as they find their way to new classrooms and reconnect with friends—and during the pandemic, it also brings up questions related to COVID-19.

Earlier today, your student received this emailed update, which included the latest information on what to do if they test positive for COVID-19 based on whether they live on campus or off campus, as well as an update on the current status of our quarantine and isolation housing.

In a Jan. 3 message to our campus community, President Mark S. Schlissel and Provost Susan M. Collins shared that cases were likely to increase, regardless of decisions made about in-person work or classes. Your student getting vaccinated and boosted as soon as they are eligible, as well as continued masking, can help prevent severe illness. Several on-campus, walk-in clinics are available for your student.

We recognize that receiving a positive COVID-19 test can elicit a range of emotions and questions about what comes next. Our team is working as quickly as possible to assist those with questions and concerns, and we are grateful that students are committed to taking steps to protect themselves and their community members.

Our Wolverines have shown an incredible response to getting tested, receiving their COVID-19 booster, and following other public health safety measures to help our campus continue a robust residential experience into the winter term—a response no doubt encouraged and supported by our many Wolverine families. Thank you for your continued support as we navigate these unprecedented times together.

A COVID Update

Dear Parents and Families,

We hope you and your Wolverine enjoyed a rejuvenating, relaxing winter break and that your Wolverine experiences safe travels back to Ann Arbor.

With the winter term set to begin Wednesday, we are writing to share important updates about health and safety measures for our campus community.

Earlier today, your student received this emailed update, which included information on classroom safety measures that include U-M’s broadened indoor masking requirement, COVID-19 booster shot requirement for our campus community, and testing requirements for students living in residence halls upon their return to campus.

Vaccination offers protection against severe illness and symptomatic infection with Omicron as well as other variants. Your Wolverine should get a COVID-19 booster shot as soon as they are eligible and upload their information using the form in Wolverine Access as soon as possible.

Our top priority is ensuring the health and safety of your student and our broader University of Michigan community. U-M continues to work collaboratively with campus health experts and academic leaders to advance our mission safely, monitor COVID-19 locally and beyond, and respond as conditions change.

From our campus community to your family: Thank you for your and your Wolverine’s vigilance to health and safety measures this fall and during winter break. Your efforts, combined with these additional measures, will help us keep our community safe, healthy and together.

A COVID Update

Dear Parents and Families,

Earlier today, your student received this emailed update, which includes information on additional health and safety measures for winter term, case updates, COVID-19 booster shot requirement for our campus community, and mental health and well-being student resources.

Our top priority is ensuring the health and safety of your student and our broader University of Michigan community. These additional COVID-19 mitigation strategies are being implemented to keep our community safe, healthy and together when we return to campus for the winter term, which will begin in a few short weeks.

Tuition Refund Insurance Available for Winter 2022 Term

The cost of tuition can be substantial, and students may need to withdraw from a term due to an injury, illness, or flare-up of a chronic condition. The U-M Tuition Insurance Plan is a voluntary insurance available to all Ann Arbor students, including in-state and out-of-state undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The tuition insurance significantly extends the university’s withdrawal policy and can help to pay back loans, grants, and scholarships, and can help students continue their education at a later time.

The Winter 2022 coverage purchase deadline is Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. Additional details are available on the University Health Service website.
