The University of Michigan is fourth on the list of top volunteer-producing graduate schools in 2017 and has made the list for 17 consecutive years. A total of 2,684 alumni have served the Peace Corps since it was created in 1961 and 60 alumni are currently volunteering.
The Student Advisory Board provides advice on pressing student issues to the Vice President for Student Life. Biweekly meetings throughout the academic year to encourage discussion on new initiatives and emergent issues. The Board’s recommendations help to influence Student Life goals, services, and overall effectiveness.

On the eve of Michigan's Bicentennial, in 2016, the Leadership Engagement Scholarship was created by students for students. The scholarship, the first of its kind at the University of Michigan, seeks to remove the cost barriers to extracurricular involvement by providing financial awards to a cohort of emerging and established leaders with demonstrated need.
