Starting a new academic year is always an exciting challenge met with some trepidation. The COVID pandemic puts a whole new spin on it. But U-M’s successful First Year Experience (FYE) is making the modifications to continue to provide the best experience for your student.
Wolverine Culture of Care
The Division of Student Life worked closely with U-M students across campus this summer to develop the Wolverine Culture of Care—a commitment to keeping the U-M campus community as healthy and safe as possible. We encourage you and your student to review and post these guidelines as a reminder of how your student can care for themselves and be respectful of their impact on the health of others.
Student Employment Opportunities and Protocols
If your student plans to work on campus this year, there will be plenty of opportunities for on-campus jobs. With COVID-19, the workplace and employment protocols will have been modified for your student’s and staff’s safety. Student Life positions offer competitive pay, locations across campus, flexible hours to fit busy schedules, opportunities to advance, skills to build your student’s resume and the chance to develop lifelong friendships.
Our Time With Your Student
Dear Wolverine Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already on the cusp of August—your students are just a few short weeks away from the start of the new semester! In Student Life, we’re busy making campus ready and as safe as possible to welcome them for an engaging and rewarding experience, whether they choose to come in person to Ann Arbor, stay home and take classes 100% virtually, or a mixture of the two.
Important fall planning updates
Your student recently received an email with important fall planning updates from the Division of Student Life. As we approach the final weeks of summer, and begin a new academic year at the University of Michigan -- whether your student has chosen an on campus or remote learning experience -- these updates on class schedule adjustments, enhanced social distancing, pre-arrival testing, and after arrival care are important to note.
Updates on Move in/Dining: What To Do Now
In our last issue we shared information about reopening our housing and dining in the fall. Both are open for fall with face coverings and physical distancing requirements in common spaces and buildings, additional cleaning and staggered timelines for activities such as move-in and dining. Here is some information on what you and your student should be doing to prepare for the new academic semester.
